Introduction of Rejuran

What are Polyneucleotides (PN)?

Polydeoxyribonuclotides (PDRN) has previously been used as a skin injectable for anti-ageing and hair growth treatments in Korea, and medically for skin regeneration purposes. PN is a purer and more concentrated form of PDRN and has stronger regenerative properties

Polynucleotide (PN) used in Rejuran is a type of biological molecule similar to DNA in cells and is extracted from salmon. The main reason salmon was used is because salmon DNA was found to have beneficial effects on human skin and the DNA is very similar to human DNA. Researchers found that salmon DNA is safe and it is purified to prevent causing side effects such as allergic reactions. PN can help the skin by providing anti-inflammatory and wound healing mechanisms which in turn can help to stimulate collagen, improve hydration and elasticity of the skin.

How are acne scars formed and how does Rejuran S help?

Acne scars are caused by deep inflammation and cyst formation with scar. After inflammation and injury to the skin by acne, the skin will try to heal itself by producing collagen to replace the ones that have been damaged.  In some cases, optimal healing might not occur, and may instead form twisted bands between the skin and the SMAS layer, which causes the skin to change shape, get pulled downwards and sink in, forming a deep, pitted scar.

Rejuran S helps to reduce the appearance of acne scarring by inducing collagen reproduction and healing of the skin structure. The texture of Rejuran S is more viscous and gel-like compared to Rejuran Healer, and acts like a filler to fill up sunken scars, and at the same time, the rejuvenating properties of Rejuran S will repair the skin at the dermis.

Difference between Rejuran and Skinboosters 

The ever-popular Skinboosters, is a hyaluronic acid injectable skin rejuvenation treatment.

Hyaluronic Acid Skinboosters are effective for hydration and brightening of the skin, but does not have collagen-stimulating and anti-aging properties like Rejuran  as Rejuran contains polynucleotides.

Aside from hydration, one can expect tighter, brighter, and softer skin from Rejuran treatments. 

Skinboosters and Rejuran can be done in combination for better results.

How to store it

This filler should be stored between 2 and 25°C in a hermetic container and kept away from light.

FAQ

1. Is the treatment painful?

Before the procedure, topical numbing cream will be applied so as to make the process more comfortable.

Rejuran S is injected under a scar, in the dermis layer after a subcision is first performed to break up the scar tissue.

A subcision breaks down abnormal collagen and scar tissue (fibrous bands) in the area which will then be treated by Rejuran S – it repairs dermal skin cells, and stimulates normal collagen production under the scar, resulting in a much shallower scar.

A fractional procedure, such as Fractional Radio Frequency, is also recommended after a Rejuran S treatment. This complementary procedure creates tiny micro-injuries to resurface the skin, smoothen scars, and also act as a stimulus for Rejuran S’s repairing and restorative properties to kick in for significantly better results.

2. Are there any adverse effects from the treatment?

Rejuran s is a safe treatment. In clinical studies done, no adverse effects were seen from the treatment. Common side effects may include mild swelling or redness over injection sites which is temporary.

3. Who is suitable for Rejuran?

Rejuran S is suitable to treat all types of acne scarring, such as box scars, rolling scars, and ice-pick scars.

4. How long will the results last?

Results from Rejuran S will be permanent.

5. What are the common effects?

REJURAN is composed of highly biocompatible DNA fragments very similar to our body; studies have shown no severe side effects such as tolerance or immunological /allergic responses after the administration of the product. Common side effects would be redness, swelling and pain which will resolve in 24-28 hours. Bruising is rare, but if occurs, can last 1-2 weeks but will resolve.

6. How often will I need to perform the treatment?

3-4 treatments are recommended for acne scarring treatment with the Rejuran S, each done one month apart.

7. Is there any downtime for the Rejuran S? 

Rejuran S injections under the skin with a subcision has a downtime of about 2 – 3 days of small injection marks. Occasionally, mild bruising can also occur with deeper subcisions.

Combined with the Fractional Radiofrequency, a Rejuran S treatment can have downtime of 3-5 days depending on the energy settings used, and might be accompanied with some redness and slight scabbing as the skin resurfaces itself.

8. What should i do after the treatment?

You will have redness and swelling (“bumps” which look like small mosquito bites) on the injection sites for 1-2 days after the day of the treatment. You are advised to stay indoors for 24-48 hours after the treatment to avoid external damage from the sun, pollutants, or cosmetics. The visible “bumps” will usually subside within 24 hours.

You should not apply make-up for 24-48 hours to avoid unnecessary clogging of the injection sites which may lead to acne or infection. You should also avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, extreme temperatures, using saunas or Turkish baths, massages, strenuous exercise for two weeks after the injection.

9. What can I expect after having the Rejuran s (scar) treatment?

After your first treatment, you will notice a shallower acne scar. However, this is not the final appearance of the scar, as most scars will see a depression again as the immediate post-procedure swelling subsides. However, with repeated treatments, the acne scar will generally become shallower and effects seen are typically permanent.
